There’s nothing a cup of tea won’t fix, and at Plate & Place, we seem to drink a lot of it. In fact, we have a tea to start the day, somewhere around lunchtime, and have been known to have one later in the evening when a caffeine-fuelled perk is needed. One thing is for sure, we know our tea, but we are forever on the quest to supplement our regular brew with a healthier, herbal option.
So, when a new tea brand comes along, we’re always eager to put the kettle on. Enter Mojo & Melo, a brand-new line of high-quality herbal infusions with three tummy-soothing teas.
Brand overview:
Founder, Michaela Jedinak, found herself suffering with chronic gastritis and acid reflux and was desperately looking for a way to heal herself without resorting to traditional medicine. It was through her determination to find a natural solution to gut health that Mojo & Melo was born. The creation of three herbal teas is designed to help reduce inflammation and aid digestion.
What sets this brand apart is their commitment to quality: only a few select herbs and whole buds – nothing else. We like the fact there is complete transparency in their branding message, and you can be sure there are no hidden fillers, colourings or preservatives.
The Teas:
Stomach Calm
We’ll start with Stomach Calm as it’s been the tea we’ve enjoyed the most – two bags left in the box, to be precise. You’ll find an abundance of little plastic-free pyramid bags containing an aromatic mix of Cardamom Pod, Cinnamon Cut, Turmeric Root, Ginger Root and Chamomile.
Each individual ingredient comes through, especially the peppery Turmeric and warming Ginger. This has become the new go-to, and because it’s naturally caffeine-free, you can enjoy at any time of the day, which is always a bonus.
Stomach Relief
If you enjoy a hot tea at night but are naturally concerned about caffeine keeping you awake, then the Stomach Relief teas can be integrated into your nightly routine without any disruption.
I was briefly put off by the inclusion of Aniseed as I’ve never been a fan of this spice, however, I was pleasantly surprised to find the slightest hint with the mild, sweet taste of Chamomile being the most prominent flavour coming through. The additional ingredients of Coriander and Marshmallow makes this a truly exceptional night-time choice.
Stomach Soothe
If you’re looking for a hot drink to replace your daily coffee, we think the Soothe range might have what you’re looking for. Invigorating Green Tea is the star of the show here, alongside Basil, Lemongrass and Chamomile.
I find that Green Tea, on its own, is always a touch on the bitter side which is why the extra ingredients adds a harmonious herbal blend, making it a drink I now go to around the daily the 4pm slump. In addition, it’s incredibly gentle on the stomach.
For the perfect cup, it’s best to steep the tea for at least five minutes to let the flavours come to the fore. Also, each bag can be reused twice.
