Describe your perfect day in London?
Oh, I love this! Well, I would start at Spitalfields Market near Liverpool Street, popping into Eataly which has the most divine pastas and wine. Afterwards, I would head to Selfridges for some retail therapy, a walk in Hyde Park, and then some delicious cocktails before going to see a fabulous show in the West End, making sure I get my steps in so I can have a martini or two!
Favourite restaurant?
I simply adore Dovetale at 1 Hotel Mayfair. Chef Tom Sellers takes traditional food and creates delicious plates that are rich and tasty, and just perfect enough to fill you up but with enough room to have their sensational Knickerbocker Glory. The sommelier at Dovetale has an incredible knack of knowing just what wine you will like and pairs it perfectly with your meal. The service is sublime, and they let my dog Beverly in too so what’s not to love. It’s great to find somewhere that is cool and sophisticated but also friendly, too.
Best place for brunch?
Jones & Sons in Dalston. It’s where I had my wedding reception and it’s a wonderful restaurant in the heart of east London. Andy Jones, the owner, is a great friend and his attention to detail and delicious brunch is simply the best. You may recognise the venue from the brilliant film, Boiling Point. The food is delicious, plentiful and I recommend going for the Bottomless Brunch as it’s worth every penny. Also, try the Bloody Mary – it’s sensational.
What was the last museum or gallery you visited?
I love the Museum of the Home in East London which is on Kingsland Road. It shows homes from the past and the future, and is such a brilliant way to educate people on how the home has changed over the years. I love it as it’s so beautifully curated and always has interactive elements to it. It’s especially beautiful at Christmas time, too.
Where are the best places to shop?
I love to shop, and Selfridges is my go-to for trend-led clothing and presents. Liberty for beautifully curated products from candles to jewellery, and Bond Street always makes me feel like I want a Pretty Woman moment!
Preferred bar or pub for a great night out?
My friend, Jeff Lim, has a gorgeous venue in Covent Garden called Gilgamesh. It’s over the top, stylish, great cocktails and brilliant DJs like Dan Corsi. What more could you want? I love it!
Tipple of choice?
I love Champagne! My favourite is Nicholas Feuillatte. I also love Idris Elba’s new Champagne, Porte Noir. I’ve never really liked tequila but my dear friend Eva Longoria’s Casa Del Sol is tasty and perfect for a party.
Most relaxing place to unwind?
I am a sucker for a facial and it’s a little bit out of London, but Dermaspa in Milton Keynes is the best place to go and a quick train trip away from London. Nilam Holmes who owns it is the best in the business and truly makes you feel and look fabulous, ten years younger and red carpet ready.
If you had only one day in London, where would you visit?
I would make sure it was a Sunday when it’s not too busy and get up as early as possible and go to E Pellicci for breakfast on Bethnal Green Road. I’d then head over to Columbia Road Flower Market and buy a fabulous bunch of roses. Afterwards, I’d wander through the City of London past St. Paul’s Cathedral and head into town and get to Aldwych where I would have a cocktail at The Savoy, watch The Lion King at the Lyceum for the Sunday matinee, and then head to Marylebone post-show and grab a bite to eat at Jikoni, which has the most incredible Asian fusion dishes.
What is your top London tip?
Walk! Look up! You get to see so much of this incredible city. There are amazing buildings with sensational architecture, so take your time and enjoy every minute of it.
Tell us what you are currently up to?
I have just launched my new sweatshirt collection with Scamp & Dude. The campaign raises money for my charity Style For Stroke and £12 from every sweatshirt goes to the foundation.
It says, ‘Kindness is a superpower’ and it really is!
I am also hosting a Christmas Concert with my dear friend Alexandra Burke on the 27th of November at The Rosewood Hotel in London. The event is in aid of Style For Stroke and The Melissa Bell Foundation. For £70 you get a fabulous evening of cocktails and canapes, music and readings, plus DJs Denise Van Outen and Jemma Bolt performing, too. Tickets are available here. It’s sponsored by one of my favourite women’s fashion brands, Karen Millen, with drinks from D1 London Spirits.
