Describe your perfect day in London?
My perfect day in London would start with an early morning walk through Hyde Park with my dogs, coffee in hand, enjoying the calm before the city fully wakes up. I’d head to a little bakery or café for breakfast – an oat latte with something freshly baked is a must. Then, a bit of culture – perhaps explore an exhibition in the V&A or wander around The National Gallery. Lunch would be leisurely, with friends at one of my favourite spots (more on that below), followed by shopping in Chelsea or a look around Divertimenti. In the evening, I might go to the Everyman cinema to watch a film while enjoying something to eat and a glass of red wine or if looking for something more lively, possibly margaritas at Mestizo on Kings Road with friends.
Favourite restaurant?
It has to be The River Café. Not just for the incredible Italian food (which is divine), but for the whole atmosphere. The setting by the river, the open kitchen, the impeccable but laid-back service – it all just creates the perfect experience. Every dish is simple yet perfectly executed, letting the ingredients speak for themselves. It’s the kind of place you can go to celebrate, or just have a long, lingering lunch.
Best place for brunch?
Granger & Co. is a classic – think ricotta hotcakes, fresh juices, and beautifully brewed coffee. Granger really nails that Aussie-style brunch – fresh, vibrant dishes that are always delicious. Plus, it’s always buzzing, which makes it feel like you are part of something exciting (which is a nice way to start the day!).
What was the last museum or gallery you visited?
The last exhibition I visited was the Van Gogh exhibition at The National Gallery, which is still on. It was amazing to see so many of his works in one space – the vibrancy and emotion in each brushstroke are truly magical. What made it particularly memorable was that I recently went to The Met in New York, where one of their standout pieces, Starry Night, was noticeably absent. I then realised it was on loan to London for the exhibition, which made seeing it here all the more impactful – a piece of New York right in the heart of London.
Where are the best places to shop?
It depends on what you’re looking for but I have a soft spot for Liberty London – it’s like stepping into a treasure trove. The building itself is stunning, and inside, you’ll find everything from beautiful fabrics to unique jewellery and quirky homewares. I also love the streets of Marylebone or Notting Hill, and if I’m in the mood for something designer, Harrods is well stocked! For kitchenware and foodie finds, a wander around Borough Market is a must, or as I said above, Divertimenti.
Preferred bar or pub for a great night out?
You can’t go wrong with the elegance of the Connaught Bar. Their martinis are legendary, and you feel like you’re in a James Bond film the minute you walk in – glamorous yet relaxed. On the other hand, if I’m in the mood for something more casual, I’d head to The Fox & Pheasant in SW10, owned by James Blunt. It’s a charming, beautifully restored Victorian pub that feels like a country pub tucked away in Chelsea. The atmosphere is warm and inviting – think wooden beams, roaring fireplaces, and a mix of locals and visitors. They serve great food, and it’s the perfect spot to settle in with a pint or a glass of wine. The pub’s character and relaxed vibe make it an absolute favourite and the WiFi password is ‘you’re beautiful!’ Don’t tell them I told you.
Most relaxing place to unwind?
A quiet corner of Hampstead Heath, with a view overlooking the city, is my go-to. There’s something so calming about being surrounded by greenery while seeing the London skyline in the distance. Perfect place for a bit of a reset and some fresh air. Or, if the weather’s not on my side (which is often!), I really love the comfort of home with my daughter, dogs, mugs of tea, slices of a bundt cake and a good box set.
If you had only one day in London, where would you visit?
If I had just one day in London, I’d start with breakfast at The Wolseley – you really can’t beat the elegance and the perfectly cooked Eggs Benedict. From there, I’d stroll over to Hatchards on Piccadilly, the oldest bookshop in London, to browse through the shelves and maybe pick up a beautiful cookbook or novel. Then, I’d take a walk into St. James’s Park, one of my favourite green spaces in the city, and make my way to The Berkeley hotel. I’d settle in at their bar under those stunning Damien Hirst paintings of flowers – it’s the perfect spot to take a breather and enjoy a bit of luxury. There’s also an amazing new spa there called Surrenne that does the best facials in London. Afterwards, I’d wander through Harrods, spending way too much time in the kitchen department, daydreaming about the latest gadgets and beautiful cookware. And to finish off the day, I’d head to Crisp Pizza in W6 for the ultimate slice – crispy, delicious, and worth every bite.
What is your top London tip?
Always carry an umbrella – London weather has a sense of humour. And don’t just stick to the tourist spots. Some of the most memorable experiences happen when you take a wrong turn and find a hidden square, a tiny art gallery, or a quirky café you didn’t expect. And lastly, eat as much as you can. There’s no shortage of amazing food in London.
Tell us what you are currently up to?
Currently, I’m in the middle of promoting my cookbook, Bundt, which celebrates all things Bundt cake! It’s been such a joy to see the book finding its way into the hands of bakers around the world, especially in the US where it’s taken off this year. In addition to baking (I’m always baking), I’m the food columnist for Country Life magazine, where I share seasonal recipes which gives me a savoury balance to all bakes. I’m also launching my cookie business and planning a London networking event for women in food next spring. Lots of exciting things on the horizon, so stay tuned!
