London’s Most Delectable Desserts You Need To Try

When it comes to satisfying an insatiable sweet tooth, London has you more than covered. At Plate & Place, we generally prefer to sit down and devour our dessert in peace, but we’re equally amenable to a grab-and-go destination. We’ve found an equitable mix of dessert spots to quell the cravings and leave you wanting more.

Here’s our selection of some of the capital’s most tempting desserts…

Connaught Hound

The Connaught Patisserie

The candy floss-hue of The Connaught Patisserie, right on the corner of Mount Street, is a veritable dessert wonderland. The whimsical creations, overseen by Pâtissier, Nicolas Rouzaud, are a sight to behold and can be safely put in into the category of ‘too pretty to eat’. If you stop by early morning, a freshly made croissant is a must. If it’s time for afternoon tea, the signature Connaught Hound is a insta-worthy hit.

After dessert, we recommend making your way to the exemplary Connaught Bar for a cocktail – remember it’s always 5 o’clock somewhere.

Crème

Crème

If cookies suddenly became the style accessory then Creme would surely take the crown. The shop front, with its muted pink tones, looks like the entrance of a luxury destination. Step inside and the smell of freshly baked cookies is intoxicating. Just imagine: big, buttery, just-out-of-the-oven gooeyness. These tempting treats are overseen by Executive Chef Gabrielle Coste, so you know they’re going to be good…very good, in fact!

Where to find Crème

4 D’Arblay Street, W1F 8DJ

We recommend

Pick up a box of six so you can try the other flavours which include: White Chocolate Miso, Banana Dark Chocolate and Vegan Double Chocolate.

Dessert at Luci

Luci

The latest opening from the Aqua Group is a classic Italian bakery/dining space which has become, for us anyway, the perfect respite from the bustling streets of Covent Garden. As soon as you enter, the prospect of gelato, fresh croissants and patisserie is right at your fingertips…and what to have first? We can attest to the pillow-soft tiramisu oozing with cream, or the chocolate cake adorned with fresh raspberries. In addition, they serve incredible coffee. In our opinion, skip the shopping and just head here.

A potion of Tiramisu and an espresso – the classic combo!

Blondie's Kitchen cookie photo

Blondie’s Kitchen

In 2016, two best friends founded a business that made us all fall in love with American-style chewy cookies. It was after a trip to the US that inspired Kristelle and Chelsie (both trained chefs) started their range of freshly baked goods. Step inside the Food Hall of Selfridges and you can spot their adorable concession, which is forever piled high with their confections. We can’t resist their vanilla cookies with an entire kinder bar nestled generously in the centre. If ‘chewy’ is your thing…these cookies will hit the spot.

Where to find Blondie’s Kitchen

You can visit their stores at Selfridges Food Hall and Covent Garden.

For birthdays and celebrations, you can send a personalised 7 inch cookie to the sweet tooth in your life. We suggest the white choc chip with vanilla sprinkles – looks gorgeous and tastes even better.

Maison Bertaux

Maison Bertaux

This legendary patisserie has been a Soho staple since 1871, and has been providing the finest cakes and patisserie to anyone who’s anyone including; Karl Marx, Virginia Woolf and Alexanda McQueen. Everything is still made fresh on the premises, including their famous Chocolate Eclairs (a must-try) and their oh-so-creamy Cheesecake. A true Soho institution!

Did you know?

The patisserie now has a gallery space upstairs, so make sure to check out their latest exhibition on your next visit.

Chin Chin Labs

For the smoothest ice-cream in the city you can find better scoop than at Chin Chin. Here, ice-cream is an art-form and science project all rolled into one: making their delicious ice-cream with liquid nitrogen, no less. The result: a creamier than creamy ice-cream with none of those pesky ice-crystals. And with a menu of top-tier flavours such as Burnt Butter Caramel, Coffee and Olive Oil and Apple Crumble Pie, makes it a true dessert destination that has built up a loyal following of ice-cream aficionados.

The toppings of Grilled White Chocolate, Marshmallow Fluff and Strawberry Sauce can’t be beaten.

Bubblewrap

The Hong Kong street snack of crispy egg waffle has become a staple of London’s dessert scene, courtesy of the ever-popular Bubblewrap. The divine combination of sweet waffle wrapped around ice-cream and smothered in sauce is an undeniable dessert of dreams. Thanks to Instagram, you can see the dessert on grid posts the world over – it really is that good. For the newbie, you have to try the ‘Delux Lover’ which is the original waffle base, filled with vanilla gelato, strawberry and Nutella.

Where to find Bubblewrap

Various locations around the city, but our favourite is in Chinatown.

The ‘House Match’ is our latest obsession, made with Matcha gelato, red bean sauce and mochi.
